Bau Cat
Bau Cat are a three-piece from the seaside town of Prestatyn in North Wales, blending Laurel Canyon shimmer with surf-jangle, new wave cool and psych-pop bite. Their sound channels the melodic craft of The La’s and The Beatles, fused with the art-school edge of Talking Heads and the playful eccentricity of The B-52s - a mix that feels nostalgic yet thrillingly new.
Fronted by Abby Butler (vocals & bass) alongside Jim Davies (guitar & vocals) and Jack Wells (drums & vocals), Bau Cat craft songs that are emotionally rich, rhythmically sharp, and full of vivid, technicolor energy.
They’ve already made waves with headline tours, standout sets at Green Man, and a headline slot on the Toad Hall Stage at Glastonbury. Their single “Silver Bangle” earned an A-listing on BBC Radio Wales, alongside airplay from BBC Introducing, Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 6 Music, and playlisting on influential Seattle station KEXP.
James Dean Bradfield of Manic Street Preachers called “Silver Bangle” “AMAZING!! naming it one of his favourite new songs. Adam Walton of BBC Introducing described it as “SO GOOD! Jazzy inflections, B52’ing… a psychedelic hoedown with The Flying Burrito Brothers! IT’S BRILLIANT, I UTTERLY LOVE THAT.”
With infectious melodies, fearless creativity, and a sound that transcends genre, Bau Cat are fast becoming one of the most exciting new bands in the UK.
Bau Cat perform at The Dogs Home, Ruabon House on Friday 27 March. Full schedule coming soon.
